Danielle Schultze
PhD student, Food Science.
Council role: Food Science Program Representative.
What is your research focus?
I am investigating the use of bacteriophages (viral predators of bacteria) to control nontyphoidal Salmonella in poultry production environments. I am also exploring the genetic mechanisms of phage-resistance in Salmonella.
What inspired you to pursue this field of study?
My BSc was in Nutrition and Food Science, and I was planning to pursue being an RD. In my second year, I accidentally took a microbiology course and ended up really liking it, so now I study foodborne pathogens!
What is your favourite food?
Any type of noodle.
Share something unique or fun about yourself!
I have multiple SCUBA diving certifications even though I don’t like being in the water.
