Meet the team: Elizabeth Russell

Elizabeth Russell

PhD student, Applied Animal Biology.

Council role: President.

What is your research focus?

My research focuses on dairy cattle welfare, specifically on calves and weaning. I work with
dairy farmers to understand how best practices for calf rearing are implemented on farms.

What inspired you to pursue this field of study?

I’ve always been fascinated by the human-animal bond, and growing up in an agricultural
community sparked my passion for dairy cows. And honestly, who can resist baby cows?

What is your favourite food?

I love black olives (specifically California grown).

Share something unique or fun about yourself!

I enjoy singing and participate in a multigenerational community choir.
